Thank you for your interest in supporting Open Access Resource Centre as a volunteer!
You can become involved with OARC by:
1. Joining our
Board of Directors! We are governed by a Board of Directors. The board is composed of 10-15 members who include teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, accountants, government professionals, family and/or caregivers of AAC users, community members and OARC staff. Meetings are held 6 times a year with additional meetings as needed by individual committees within the board. The initial term commitment is 2 years with the opportunity to extend.
2. Helping us plan for and run
Camp yAAC! The success of this camp is largely due to our incredible volunteer committee. Camp yAAC operates for 3 days in the month of July at Camp Manitou in Headingley, Manitoba. Fifteen campers join us for an authentic camp experience while being immersed in AAC throughout the day. Activities include kayaking, zip lining, swimming, music therapy, scavenger hunts, and more! Our volunteers help us to review applications from campers, plan activities, prepare materials, and assist at the camp to ensure everyone has a fun and memorable experience.
3. Assisting us in planning and coordinating our
Annual Conference about AAC. We have a variety of speakers present on current issues to better build capacity in our community and ensure the success of our AAC users. Our volunteer committee members help us to choose speakers and topics and coordinate the events of the day.
